When Crazy Becomes Crazier

TheCrossroadsChapel.org

It’s almost beyond belief how crazy people are becoming in America. Crazy just gets more bizarre every time you look at stories like the following from a church school:

A private K-12 school in Manhattan is encouraging its students to stop using the terms ‘mom, dad, and parents’ in an effort to make the campus a more welcoming and inclusive space. The Grace Church School recommends that students, staff, and parents remove harmful assumptions from the way they interact. For example, ‘grown-ups, folks, family, and guardians’ are considered better alternatives to ‘mom, dad, and parents’ because they allege the latter contain assumptions about what a ‘typical’ family looks like.

We want to become more inclusive, so no more mom, dad, or parents. Guess what? Ninety percent of people in America live with terms like mom and dad, and this does typify how a family is defined. The terms mom and dad are endearing terms that have stood the test of time, and now we have to call them grown-ups, folks, family, and guardians?

I would like to challenge any of you to go to your parents’ house and say to your mom: “Hey guardian, how are you doing?” You had better duck because your ‘guardian’ is going to clock you, and rightfully so.

I am convinced that all of this inclusive language and tolerant ideologies are only making Americans more confused than ever before. The Bible teaches that confusion isn’t a characteristic of God:

1 Corinthians 14:33 For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.

So, if I understand that Verse correctly, confusion does not come from God, but from other sources. Satan is a big source of confusion, and the more confusion he creates for a person, a city, or a country the better chance he has to rob, steal, and destroy the lives of people.

Last summer, our city burned because of riots and the lack of response from our elected officials to stop the city from burning. Our mayor was so confused that he even stated we needed to let the people riot in order to let out their frustration after the death of George Floyd. It took the Governor of Minnesota three days to finally call out the National Guard to help stop the destruction. However, we weren’t the only city with confused leaders. The leaders in Portland and Seattle did nothing for months while rioters took over city blocks and set up perimeters that were off-limits to police and other first responders. It’s all about confusion … just as Nero who fiddled while Rome burned … our city leaders did the same.

Confusion plays a large part in today’s world. Confusion is not only in the political system of our cities, it’s even more prevalent in our personal lives. The trust we once had in our institutions has all eroded. Even our spiritual institutions such as churches have become so confused that few take seriously the preaching of the Gospel and many have discarded discernment in favor of inclusivity. This church confusion is so pervasive that sinful behavior is now acceptable and even promoted.

The only antidote to confusion is the truth. Once we lose the ability to discern the truth we begin to slide into confusion. When the pulpits in the land decided to placate to the appetites of the people, we no longer had the discernment to know the truth, and we began the slippery slope of telling our audiences what they wanted to hear.

2 Timothy 4 3For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. 4They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.

Let me conclude by making two points clear:

1. When God’s truth is rejected, confusion is the end result.

2. When a society ends up in confusion, it is because it no longer discerns the truth and accepts lies as the foundation.

America is guilty of both.

This is why we have schools that do not want the words mom and dad used on their campus. We have become very confused people.
