Is It Ever Safe?

I have written about this love affair we Americans have with the words ‘being safe’ so much that I’m getting nauseous about it. Yet, I think it’s worth becoming a voice that says, “hold on a minute, let’s take another look at this.”

Take a look at what Jesus was saying about a person being set free from Evil spirits:

Matthew 12 43When an evil spirit leaves a person, it goes into the desert, seeking rest but finding none. 44Then it says, ‘I will return to the person I came from.’ So, it returns and finds its former home empty, swept, and in order. 45Then the spirit finds seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they all enter the person and live there. And so that person is worse off than before. That will be the experience of this evil generation.

The point I think Jesus was making was that He came to set men free from the Evil of sin, but many will not maintain that Freedom by consciously filling their lives with God. What happens is that Evil is never passive, it is always aggressive and will try to find a way back into a person’s life. So, my point is that even with God’s Provision of setting us Free from sin and its power, we just don’t coast into Heaven in safety.

Jesus explains this even more in the Parable of the Ten Virgins. He says there are two kinds of redeemed people; some are wise, some are foolish. The Virgins have one main task and that is to keep enough oil in their lamps so when the Bridegroom comes, especially if it is at night, they would have enough light to go out to meet Him.

The Darkness in our world can easily be understood as the night, and the only way to see through this Darkness is by the lit oil in the lamp. That oil is God’s Word and the Holy Spirit. If our lives are filled with these, then we are ready, and the night does not need to be feared … the Light from the burning of the oil will make a way. The wise, as Jesus described them, made sure they had enough oil. They prepared themselves to know the uncertainty of when the Bridegroom would Return.

1 Thessalonians 5:2 For you know quite well that the day of the Lord’s return will come unexpectedly, like a thief in the night.

This is the uncertainty that we have to prepare for because we do not know the day or the hour that He will Return.

Matthew 26:41 Keep watch and pray, so that you will not give in to temptation. For the spirit is willing, but the body is weak!

The foolish virgins were consumed with keeping their lives half in and half out. The oil they had was depleted because their emphasis wasn’t on God as much as it was on themselves. No Oil = No Light. There will be no provision from others to give you, it must be a personal decision to pursue the Oil and keep it full in your life.

So, when we think of safety, there is no safety until Heaven. Getting and keeping the Oil flowing is a discipline, and that discipline doesn’t just happen … there is a Sacrifice to it. However, this Oil will be essential for Believers to maintain. Why? Because persecution will be what we will face next.

Matthew 5:10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

2 Timothy 3:12 In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.

Luke 6:22 Blessed are you when people hate you, when they exclude you and insult you and reject your name as evil, because of the Son of Man.

We know the Bible teaches that a time will come where in order for the world to be safe from terrorism, diseases, and financial disaster, the Anti-Christ will insist that everyone take a mark of safety known as 666. This is not a conspiracy theory … it is Bible 101. God always tells us before it happens so that it does not take us by surprise. Safety will be the optimum word that will be used to gain acceptance and allegiance to a plan to keep safety a priority. Keep that phrase in mind: “to keep safety a priority.” We are being programmed today to accept the ultimate safety plan tomorrow.

So, is it ever safe? No, you can never be safe in a world where Evil exists. One of the ways Evil wins is by subtly encouraging those with lamps to let their oil run low and lulls them to sleep.

Please take time to process the Prophetic Scriptures we will face in these Last Days.
