Many of us would say that God’s Revelation to man is complete in the Bible, so God is not saying anything new today. However, He does take what He has said in the past and makes it relevant for today. So, perhaps a more correct question would be, “What is God making known today that is found in His Word?” Let me suggest three things that I feel He is bringing to our attention:
1. God is Shaking Everything
Hebrews 12:26 When God spoke from Mount Sinai his voice shook the earth, but now he makes another promise: “Once again I will shake not only the earth but the heavens also.”
Haggai 2:6 For this is what the LORD of Heaven’s Armies says: “In just a little while I will again shake the heavens and the earth, the oceans and the dry land.”
God will shake the Nations and they will feel this shaking … it can’t be stopped or averted because God is behind it. I think God has been shaking our Nation since 2016 revealing just how corrupt our system in Washington has become and how deep our hatred runs in this County. This hatred is a hatred for God, His Standards for Morality, and the standards He has laid out in His Word. America worships its political agendas and that is what God is shaking today in Washington. The corruption runs deep within our political system, and factions like the ‘Deep State’ are real and they will stop at nothing in order to bring about the changes they want to see in America. President Obama’s agenda during his Presidency was to basically change America, and many of his supporters are still in key positions in the Government working to continue his legacy of change. Some have called these holdovers the ‘Deep State.’
Donald Trump was another surprise change, a change that has shaken up how the political system works. His election brought out in the open the enemies of the State and the enemies of the American people. Americans, if they were paying attention, saw how the media and the left declared war on Donald Trump the day he won the election and have continued for the past 3 years, trying to implicate wrongdoing and discredit him as our elected President. The shaking is exposing what we have never seen before, but we are beginning to see how the system works and how corrupt it has all become.
2. Not all Ideas are Created Equal
Some people think that all ideas are equal, and there is no difference between ideas and beliefs. That is just not true. Jesus told us that if you build your life on the wrong ideas and beliefs that one day you will be destroyed by what life brings your way.
Matthew 7 26And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.
No one but Jesus has the right ideas about God and the resources to support them.
3. There is a new Standard for the Church
I am not against creativity from the pulpit, but I am against leaders who engineer concepts and Prophesy that God is doing a new thing. That is why I was careful in suggesting God has nothing new to share with us other than the Revelation that is already in the Bible. He simply brings to the top, like cream in milk, the emphasis that we need to be aware of in these Days prior to His Return.
For example, some of the that cream rising to the top would include:
1. Israel and the role she will play in His Return. (Israel was never replaced by the Church in God’s Plan of making One New Man out of both)
2. Prophecy and what God says about the last days. (1/3 of Scripture is about Prophecy)
3. Judgment and how it will first start with His Church (Judgment starts with the household of God)
4. Shaking this world so that what remains will be the unshakeable Kingdom of God. (God’s Word is holding this world accountable and the shaking is only a reminder He is in Control)
5. Leadership and Repentance for not listening to God. (Leaders shift their emphasis from being Biblical to an American model of success)
The Emphasis of the Church is at the discretion of the leaders and what I see on the horizon is a new style of leader in the Church. That leadership style goes back to the Early Church when nothing deterred the Message from getting to its destination. Few leaders today in the West have placed their lives in harm’s way like those in the Early Church. However, one former mega-Church pastor and author has decided that it is time to go back to the roots of Christianity and reach people who are often forgotten. Francis Chan is taking on a new career as a Missionary to the ultra-poor throughout Asia and is an example of what Christian leadership will look like in the future. Mega-Churches are the success story of the 21st Century and anyone who pastors such a Church is often treated as a celebrity. Yet the success of those in Scripture were often those who lived each day as if it were their last and were often martyred.
Francis Chan, former mega-Church pastor and best-selling author, is leaving the United States to become a full-time Missionary to ‘bring relief, share the Gospel, and plant Churches’ among the ‘ultra-poor’ in Asia.
Too much of Christianity has become a marketable trend where the large and impressionable Church is the goal of many pastors. This mindset seems so foreign to me in light of the History of the Church, and even from Scripture itself. The course correction for the Church is to see leaders not as successful CEOs, but as Christ Followers who will not back away from delivering the Message of the Gospel, even at the cost of losing their own lives. How would that go over as a Mission Statement for leaders in the Church?
Someone has said: “The world cannot see the real God, because they don’t see a real Church.”
What are the course corrections in your life that are needed to be the kind of Disciple God has called you to be?
