Hopelessness Meets the Shepherd

So many people I talk with lately are feeling great pressure to give up and give in. There are feelings of hopelessness because of circumstances, emotions of despair, and an overwhelming sense that no one cares.

The dictionary defines hopelessness as a condition of despair, the lack of hope. It is the number one reason that people commit suicide … they see no way out, and they have no hope. Most of us don’t experience hopelessness to that degree, but living in the times we are, hopelessness does seem to be creeping in more often than we would like.

The frustration and isolation of COVID-19, the economic pain of jobs lost, businesses lost, racial unrest, social unrest, and the political moves to change our government system has all been overwhelming for most of us. I believe this is exactly the agenda we see playing out over the world where the objective is to overwhelm the people so that they will be quick to abandon any reservations they may have had to accept a solution that brings them hope.

Hopelessness is the condition of the last days that will be the reason many people will accept the Anti-Christ’s proposition of hope through economic stability, safe health conditions, and a military neutral system that will enslave the world under his influence and control. This is the end game of where we see our world heading.

We see a post COVID-19 society developing. Money will eventually develop into a system of a hackproof tender tattooed on your person. Vaccinations will become the law of land and without them, you will not enter stores, travel, go to school, or be served at restaurants. Without a vaccination against the kind of pandemics we have experienced, we will be isolated from society. The first 6 months of 2020 is a page out of the playbook that has overwhelmed all of us, and we are all in a state of mind to get out of it. What will be the price to get out of it? Your freedom. You will not be free to make your own decisions because they will be made for you … that is the lesson of COVID-19. The main message we get out of the world health organizations is ‘we know how to keep you safe, and if you don’t comply, we will force our demands upon you.’ Governments have been doing this forever. In fact, America was established where the people ran the government, but now we are seeing America go the same way all nations have succumbed to, and that is the eclipsing of freedom for the sake of a greater cause.

I believe hopelessness is a condition of our hearts that abandons the truth of God for the lies of society. Any culture in and of itself is without real hope without God. There is nothing that can give us hope if the only resources are found rooted in this world.

With all of this said, let me end with hope-filled encouragement.

God said that He will never leave us nor forsake us, so we know God is always there. He sees the condition of our nation, our lives, our families, and our churches. He stands at the door and knocks, and knocks, and knocks. He is standing there knocking while our cities burn, while our politicians scramble for answers, while our races cry for justice, and while our loved ones are sick and dying with COVID-19. Yet, that door was rarely answered by those who could make a difference. Only those who did open the door to His knocking found the hope they needed to live their lives.

Hopelessness is ultimately an individual problem. No matter how many people you may have in your life, hopelessness will overshadow all of them. For most of us, our greatest fear is that we will be alone. We will be alone in our struggles, we will be alone in our death, and we will face eternity alone. The person who feels alone is the one God goes looking for. He leaves the masses and looks for those who feel all alone. That is a parable Jesus told and that loneliness isn’t a condition for despair … it is a condition to surrender to the One who is pursuing you. You are in agony when you experience hopelessness, but it is only a pre-condition for you to experience God in a way that brings the ultimate hope of His promises and His support in your life. Hopelessness is a condition of the heart that needs the remedy of surrender … not to hopelessness, but to God.

You cannot create any solutions that will get rid of hopelessness other than surrendering to God. Jesus said:

Matthew 11:28 Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.

This is the solution to hopelessness as a person and as a nation. We may never get America to agree to doing this … but you can. You can make this declaration today and surrender your life to Him. What do you have to lose? If you are experiencing hopelessness, why not get the antidote to relieve the pain and come into the rest of His peace?

Jesus told a parable about pursuing lost sheep, who were hopelessly lost and hopelessly alone:

Luke 15 3Then Jesus told them this parable: 4“Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? 5And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders 6and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’ 7I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.”
