Deuteronomy 28:2 All these blessings will come on you and accompany you if you obey the Lord your God.
The goal of a committed life to Christ: ‘To make your life an altar to the Lord.’
We hear the term more often today as we describe the aftermath of COVID-19. We are now living in the ‘new normal.’ So, what is the new normal? Yes, things will change, and life may not return to the way of life prior to this pandemic, and that is understandable. Get used to it … the new normal is what will continue to evolve as we experience events that will usher in the Last Days.
Many people will not entertain the notion that there is an era of the Last Days, and many Churches have stopped preaching on Bible Prophecy because of the strain it would create among the Faithful. Yet, if anyone who should understand the last days it should be the Faithful … they are the Truth Bearers, and the Last Days will be our opportunity to call people back to God because of the everts around us.
We are now hearing reports of people coming to the Lord during the COVID-19 pandemic from all over the world. People start paying attention to the Divine when events happen on the global stage that affects them directly.
The new normal will be caused by the Curses the Bible Predicts will happen when people abandon God. Israel has been the litmus test of God’s Blessings and Curses and I believe we can learn how to Discern Our Times based upon God’s dealings with them.
The Bible Teaches the Last Days will be Days of Curses. Jesus said there will be wars, rumors of wars, famines, and earthquakes all over the earth prior to His Return. In other words, the Last Days will be days of one crisis after another. Why you ask? I believe it is a way to get our attention. When crisis happens in our world that we cannot control, we call it ‘an act of God.’ These acts of God may be unexpected, but God uses them to call our attention to Eternity. He is reminding us that He exists, and that no person or Nation can escape His Notice. So, what is God noticing? He is noticing how we have abandoned Him for the pleasures of self-indulgence.
Israel was told in Deuteronomy 28 that they would be Blessed if they Obeyed God or be Cursed if they did not. So, let me remind you of the Curses that would happen as a result of the people abandoning God:
· Curses in the land; city and country
· Curses of food and resulting famine
· Curses of the offspring; they will serve other masters other than God
· Curses of departing health
· Curses of bewilderment and confusion and madness
· Curses of infidelity
· Curses on your prosperity; you shall become the tail and not the head
· Curses on children; they will be destroyed (abortion is one way)
· Curses on families; hatred and hostility
The crisis is about food, health, emotional sickness, family destruction, and the loss of prosperity. All these Curses deal with the normal life of provision, protection, and prosperity. God is going to shake all of them to allow a new normal to emerge that draws attention to the Eternal.
Hebrews 12 26At that time his voice shook the earth, but now he has promised, “Once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens.” 27The words “once more” indicate the removing of what can be shaken—that is, created things—so that what cannot be shaken may remain.
There are so many Keys that God has given to us to Discern the Day in which we live. This discernment should become the basis for how we direct our lives.
Jesus warned us in Matthew 24 and Luke 21 that the Last Days will be filled with crisis:
· Wars and rumors of wars/security and terror
· Earthquakes/the land
· Pestilence/global health
· Fear will be pervasive
· Hatred toward Christians
· Worries leading to drunkenness and sexual dissipation
· Family betrayal
· Financial crisis/cashless society
So, if you want to talk about a new normal, I think you have to talk about Bible Prophecy. This modern-day term of ‘new normal’ that is developing, is the result of Bible Prophecy. The theme for me as I think of COVID-19 is, ‘God is trying to get our attention.’ The Curses and the crises that I have mentioned here have one objective … to get your attention.
We can ignore even pleasure. But pain insists upon being attended to. God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our conscience, but shouts in our pains: it is his megaphone to rouse a deaf world. ~C. S. Lewis
Crisis has the same affect. My objective today is to make the ‘new normal’ not about the new patterns in lifestyle, but an awareness of God’s Plan to get our attention and return to Him as Lord and Savior. What is the new normal? Returning to Him releases us from the Curses of Abandonment and replaces them with the Blessings of Obedience.
To enjoy the Blessings of God’s Promises, read the Fourteen Verses of Deuteronomy 28:1-14, these are the antidotes to the Curses of Disobedience.
